Formal Attire Trends We Will See in 2022 Part 1

Don't get me wrong, I love a good "Say Yes to the Dress" episode once in a while, but I believe our wedding dress endeavors have become less of a priority.  As my friends and I approach our late 20's, and with so many of them engaged, they would agree that they are money-cautious when it comes to dresses. One of the biggest regrets people have after their big day is how much they spent on their wedding attire. The wedding dress is not something brides want to keep in their closest for years to come anymore; they are being sold on places like Facebook Marketplace. Channels like TLC have glorified the whole "this dress is the one" experience. With all of that being said, here are some formal attire trends we will see in 2022!

Don't let this scare you, but this is a big one! Sharon Sever, one of the head designers of Galia Lahav, claims this will be the year of bold changes. The wedding industry wants to create a more eco-friendly, sustainable options for brides. Transitional attire falls under the same category as sustainable attire. This means that wedding designers are creating and selecting pieces that can be worn again. This may include shorter gowns, trousers, jumpsuits, cocktails dresses, and attire that is simply...not a true white. I love this because it also creates more gender-neutral options for our clients. Colors like off-white, blush, champagne, and ivory are great shade options if a bride does not want to wear a traditional white. We have seen this trend flourish on the runway, and on celebrities like Arianna Grande, Ivy Getty, Jessica Biel, Gwen Stefani, and more.

Off the Shoulder Lace

I am completely obsessed with Hailey Bieber's dress she wore to her wedding. I know she got married in 2018, but we are continuing to see this style everywhere. And I'm totally here for it. The effortless, pulled-back bun is also a staple with this style. It really highlights and accentuates the collar bones and shoulder blades. Lace is so romantic, elegant, and never goes out of style. It's here to stay.

Halter Dress

Is there anything sexier than an open back? I think not. A halter-style dress is very classy and accentuates all the right areas. This dress from Revolve is a great dupe for Hailey Bieber's dress, that shows just enough leg action. I love this dress because it is very affordable, and comes in a variety of colors if you're looking for bridesmaid's dresses. I do think the pulled-back hairstyle gives this dress the full effect, but some Hollywood curls would be straight fire as well. This dress can be worn in a variety of fabrics including satin, chiffon, organza, and more!

Balloon Sleeves

Retro sleeves are definitely coming back, with a more modern flare. "Puffy Sleeves" or "Balloon Sleeves" was a popular style from the '80s, and brides are into it. This is a very feminine, girly design that is great for summer or destination weddings. This style is especially popular with short dresses, which creates a nice balance especially for women with petite frames. This look is bold and certainly makes a statement if you are wearing a larger, ballgown-like dress. We see it a lot on the runway, but it is not typically worn by your average bride.
